While recovery is progressing, scars from the earthquake still remain at lodging facilities in Fujikawaguchiko Town.

At THE TOKI Fujikawaguchiko, which opened in April last year, hotel manager Kota Watanabe said, “The wallpaper peeled off and cracks appeared.”

The facility suffered damage such as cracks in the wallpaper in almost 24 buildings, and operations were suspended for nearly two weeks.

Even now, four buildings in particular, where the damage was especially severe, have not yet been reopened.

The reopening has been delayed beyond the initial estimate, partly because a shortage of naphtha has led to a shortage of the glue used to wallpaper.

Watanabe said, “We are entering the summer vacation season, so we want to reopen as soon as possible, but when it comes to the safety of our guests, that is the issue.”

Losses are expected to exceed 4 million yen, and the facility is aiming to reopen before the Obon holiday.
