Toru Saegusa, Prefectural Mount Fuji Tourism Promotion Inspector:
"For 72 days without major trouble, everyone climbed Mount Fuji safely, so first of all I am relieved."
According to the prefecture, this year the number of people permitted to pass was over 175,000, which increased by about 25,000 people compared to last year, or 17% as a rate.
Guidance given to inadequately equipped climbers were over 1,400 cases, an increase of 30%, with defects in rain gear accounting for 98%.
