Mount Fuji opened for the climbing season on July 1st in Yamanashi and Shizuoka, and climbers were able to see the sunrise through the breaks in the clouds.

It was also the first time in 13 years that the mountain opened in both Yamanashi and Shizuoka at the same day.


A Yamanashi prefectural official said, “It is now 3 a.m., so we will open the gate at the 5th Station.”

Reporter Fumiya Otsuka said, “We are now at the 5th Station of Mount Fuji. The gate has been opened, and climbers are coming in one after another.”
