As part of the "World Project" commemorating 80 years since the atomic bombing—an initiative promoted by the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Survivors Council (Nagasaki-Hisaikyo)—NBC has been broadcasting the recorded testimonies of survivors in both Japanese and English since 2025.

In this installment of the "Voices of the Hibakusha" series (No. 24), we present the testimony of TANI Emiko.

TANI Emiko was an atomic bomb survivor who was exposed during a forced relocation. Although uninjured herself, her father fell ill from the radiation. Their life together was unimaginably difficult, with Tani caring for her father while attending elementary school without missing a day.

She recalls a poignant memory of her father taking her to see cherry blossoms, later realizing he may have been searching for a place to end their lives together. After starting work post-junior high and marrying at 18, Ms. Tani lost her father to leukemia just four months later.
