As part of the "World Project" commemorating 80 years since the atomic bombing—an initiative promoted by the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Survivors Council (Nagasaki-Hisaikyo)—NBC has been broadcasting the recorded testimonies of survivors in both Japanese and English since 2025.

In this installment of the "Voices of the Hibakusha" series (No. 2), we present the testimony of YOSHIYAMA Hideko.

YOSHIYAMA Hideko was 22 years old at the time of the atomic bombing and was exposed to the atomic bomb at the Mitsubishi Steel Nagasaki company, where she worked, 1.2 kilometers south of the hypocenter.

At the Mitsubishi Steel Nagasaki company, all four factories were completely destroyed, including the main concrete building where Ms. YOSHIYAMA was exposed to the atomic bombing, and 1, 406 people, or 69% of the 2,041 people who were on duty at the time, died.

YOSHIYAMA passed away on January 31, 2008 at the age of 85. Although she was admitted and discharged from the hospital more than 50 times due to the aftereffects of the atomic bombing, such as breast cancer and thyroid surgery, she passed on his experience of being exposed to the atomic bomb to school trip students visiting Nagasaki.

Nagasaki Atomicbomb Survivors Council and Nagasaki Broadcasting Co.,Ltd.(NBC) has signed a contract.

As part of “Global Project - 80 years after Atomic Bomb Explosion” led by Nagasaki Atomicbomb Survivors Council, the voices of Hibakusha recorded by NBC will be broadcast through YouTube channel of Nagasaki Atomicbomb Survivors Council, “NBC NEWS DIG” (a news video streaming site) and such.
